After spending more than 25 years working at Banco Bradesco SA as chairman, Lazaro de Mello Brandao has made the decision to formally step down from his position, passing it on to Luiz Carlos Trabuco. At 91 years old, Brandao was one of the oldest banking executives in the world, and he had brought the company to significant success over his long career with the company.
His legacy has been rich, and it will not be easy to live up to. However, with his appointment of Luiz Carlos Trabuco as the new chairman, the company can likely look forward to continued success.
The current CEO, Luiz Carlos Trabuco, will be passing his role on in March. Until then, he will be taking on both roles. The race for the position of CEO will certainly be interesting, as the company’s top executives prepare themselves for the upcoming election. With a strong talent pool and a number of outstanding executives, calling the race will be next to impossible.
Luiz Carlos Trabuco, Current CEO of Banco Bradesco SA
Currently serving as both the chief executive officer and chairman of the bank is Luiz Carlos Trabuco. Having graduated with a degree in Philosophy from dação Escola de Sociologia e Política de São Paulo, few could have predicted his eventual career in banking. However, he has been working with Bradesco for the vast majority of his career, working as their Executive Vice-President and Investor Relations Officer for many years before being promoted to chief executive officer in 2009. Since late last year, he has held the titles of both CEO and chairman and will continue to do so until March of this year. Previously, he had also served for six cumulative years with Grupo Bradesco Seguros as CEO.
However, despite his long and successful career being focused on Bradesco, the bank is far from his only venture. Luiz Carlos Trabuco has managed to hold a number of executive positions. Those positions include, but are not limited to, the following: Chairman of the Board of Directors of Odontoprev S.A., President of the Marketing and Fundraising Commission of the Brazilian Association of Real Estate Credit and Savings Entities and Executive Vice-President and Member of the Board of Governors for the National Confederation of Companies in General Insurance, Private Pension and Life, Supplementary Health and Capitalization
The Candidates are Strong, and the Race for CEO has Begun
Brandao always fostered an environment that encouraged promotion from within, rather than looking to outside firms for the selection of their executives. This has allowed a rich company culture to develop and has encouraged employees to strive for success. This philosophy has carried on under Luiz Carlos Trabuco, and the company’s new chief executive officer will most likely be chosen from the talented pool of current Bradesco executives. While the new CEO will not be named until this March, there are seven executives who are likely to be foremost among the candidates. These executives have all contributed heavily to the success of the company, and will likely continue to do so with even greater efficiency from the position of chief executive officer.
The most likely candidates for the position of CEO are as follows:
André Rodrigues Cano, human resources.
Alexandre da Silva Gluher, chief risk officer.
Mauricio Machado de Minas, IT department.
Josué Augusto Pancini, branch network and high-income segment.
Marcelo de Araujo Noronha, card operation, corporate and investment banking, and Bradesco BBI.
Domingos Figueiredo Abreu, treasury and lending departments.
Octavio de Lazari, insurance unit.
